For couples seeking a unique NYC wedding venue, Housing Works Bookstore may be the perfect choice. The non-profit organization offers it’s space for private rentals for weddings and other events and all proceeds go to benefit the New York City homeless living with HIV/AIDS. Our photographers have worked at the bookstore venue several times and always capture beautiful photos! The venue resembles and Ivy league library and features spiral staircases, mahogany balconies (great for aerial shots) and walls of books! Located in Soho, the surrounding area is also great for wedding photos with cobblestone street and cast-iron facades. The rental prices are also very affordable in comparison to most NYC wedding venues and can be rented by the hour. Check out their website for more details.
Our wedding photographers had a great time capturing this Housing Works Bookstore wedding. Dale and Di’s wedding celebration at the unique venue turned out great! We loved all the special details of their big day including a wedding bouquet made from book pages (how fitting!), a vintage typewriter for well wishes, a seating chart made from a library card catalog (remember those?!) and centerpieces made from old books tied with twine! The couple had a first look wedding photos in the Soho area which is best known for its famous cobblestone streets. The gorgeous Asian bride wore a red coat (symbolic of good luck in Chinese culture) and later changed into a red dress for their choreographed first dance! Some rules are made to be broken, especially when it comes to planning your big day! One of the many benefits of getting married in the 21st century is being able to put your own twists on tradition. Who says the guests have to be seated on two sides (Bride & Groom’s family separate)? Why can’t cocktail hour happen before the ceremony (makes for much happier guests) and is a veil really necessary? There really is no “right way” to get married, it’s all about what works for you as a couple. Lior and Andrew chose the non-traditional venue, Housing Works Bookstore, to celebrate their union and our photographers had a blasts capturing their celebration. Check it out!View the gallery
