Marianne and Bryan
Most women who haven’t been part of a Bridal party before may think accepting the invitation means picking out a dress grabbing a bouquet and heading down the aisle with one of the groomsmen. While that is certainly part of the equation, choosing to be a bridesmaid entails ALOT more than that. There are financial obligations to consider and of course a huge time commitment on your part based mostly on how elaborate your Bride’s wedding is. Here are a few things to expect (and keep in mind) in the months (or year) leading up to the big day.
The Dress and accessories: It is generally expected that you pay for your own bridesmaids dress. Budget around $100-300 bucks for the gown and don’t forget shoes, jewelry etc. While most Brides take their girls style and color preferences into consideration, you should remain open to what she chooses. After all this is her big day and while you only have to wear this dress once, she will remember your willingness to cooperate forever (and once our fairy dust kicks in YOU get to do the choosing ….payback anyone?)
The Bridal Shower & Bachelorette Party: Ok this is where you and the other girls get to let your creativity shine. Generally, the Maid of Honor is responsible for organizing the shower and bachelorette party with the assistance of the bridesmaids. The girls are expected to chip in for decorations, food etc. so be sure to have a honest conversation about what you can afford to contribute early on.
Have Fun: While there is a lot of time and money that can go into being a bridesmaids, don’t forget to have fun! It really is an honor to be asked to be part of someone’s wedding day and something that they will cherish forever! You get to ride around in a limo, sip cocktails, get dolled up and dance the night away with some of your best friends so be sure to enjoy the journey!
This lucky Bride, Marianne, had nine close girlfriends who were thrilled to be part of her wedding party. (Her groom, Bryan had a crew of nine on his side too!) Our photographers and videographer started with the cute couple as they got ready at Affinia Manhattan Hotel.
Opting for a first look, Marianne and Bryan took intimate portraits on the terrace of the hotel before
heading over to Chelsea Piers for their ceremony. They exchanged vows in a Jewish ceremony and were pronounced Husband and Wife and ended the night with great food and dancing.
We had a blasts working with this couple (and their bridesmaids & groomsmen) and wish them a lifetime of happiness!
