Maison May Dekalb Wedding
Our photographery and video team started with the couple in Brooklyn at a townhouse they rented for the big day. When you are looking for a place to get ready for your wedding, considering alternatives like airbnb instead of a hotel. You typically get a lot more space and a lot more character and charm in the décor for your getting ready photos.
Josephine got ready upstairs and chose a beautiful lace ivory gown and elegant open-toe pumps while her soon-to-be spouse got ready one flight below. Heidi looked great in a wedding suit, bowtie and suspenders to add a bit of style!
The two wrote each other tear jerking love letters to read which their planner hand delivered. They reminiscied about how they met and fell in love and professed their undying love to one another (beautiful!) . Our team set Heidi up for their first look on the steps of the brownstone while Josephine made her way down. Afterwards the couple took portraits in front of the house as the photographer assisted with directing them into natural poses (nothing cheesy with our team!) .
Choosing to have a first look is a great way to get your posed photos of out of the way and frees you up to enjoy cocktail hour after the ceremony. Maison May Dekalb offers a clean and classic backdrop for wedding photography (our team loves shooting there!) The second floor parlor offers a large floor to ceiling window, vaulted ceilings and all white décor.
The guests arrived for the ceremony and enjoyed reading the personalized wedding programs while they waited. We loved the sign the junior groomsmen carried down the aisle, “Here comes the Bride & Here comes the Other Bride” (great idea for an LGBT wedding).
Our long time friend, Alice Soloway has been a huge supporter of the LGBT community and has officiated many same sex weddings. She wrote a beautiful ceremony and the happy couple exchanged personal vows and custom rings to seal the deal before joining their guests for the reception.
The venue set up the tables beautifully with fresh wild flowers, candles and personal size vodka bottles as favors! Their escort cards were handwritten and nestled in wooden stands. Our favorite idea of all were the jenga pieces which the couple asked the guest to write marriage advice on for them to read later!
The parlor level was cleared out for dancing while the couple cut their cake . They chose a beautiful 3-tier naked wedding cake topped with a “love birds” topper. The dessert table also included an assortment of cookies and paper bags stamped with the phrase “Eat Drink and be Married” as doggie bags (how cute!)
The DJ kept the party going late into the night and everyone had a blast! It was our honor to be a part of their day and we wish them a lifetime of happiness!
