You’re engaged, Congratulations! The road to matrimony will prove to be one of the most exciting journeys of your life thus far! You’ve probably taken 100 “selfies” of your ring and already changed your status on Facebook to “Engaged”, but before you pick out the dress and set the date, be sure to take some time to enjoy this special time in your life. There are hundreds of wedding blogs out there (knot.com, stylemepretty.com and brides.com to name a few) that will give you tons of ideas about what to do after you’ve accepted a proposal, however there are some suggestions for what-not-to do after you get engaged as well that may save you some time (and money) in the process. Check out this Brooklyn engagement shoot our photography team captured of an adorable couple who knows the value of taking some time to enjoy the moment!
Wedding planning involves tons of decisions that you and your hunny will have to make together before getting to the altar. For many couples, it may be the first time money, family relations (where to sit divorced parents at the wedding is a stickler), and other major issues are being thoroughly discussed. While we are all for jumping in with both feet, there is definitely some value to holding off on a few major decisions and enjoying a “wedding-planning-free” engagement period. An article written for The Huffington Post Blog gives some good pointers on what-not-to-do’s for newly engaged couples.
1. Don’t spend all your time surfing the web and buying bridal magazines. While Pinterest is amazingly addictive, you will be overwhelmed by the thousands of DIY options before even picking a color theme! 2. Don’t plan a major vacation until after the wedding (honeymoon): unless your wedding is several years away, trust me you are going to need to save every extra penny for the fabulous honeymoon you are sure to want! 3. Don’t allow the stress of wedding planning to ruin your engagement (and potentially your relationship). This may be one of our favorite suggestions! Seriously, getting hitched is about celebrating your love for each other; in all the chaos of planning, don’t lose sight of that.
